Description
Gorgeous 3/4 size copy of a Joseph Pfretzschner violin, made in Germany. It's marked BKN, which may be a reference to an area of Germany, but professional opinion appears divided. It states on the label, 'Prope Violino car Retpontent' - I have no notion what this means, and am not even sure of the language. So, the instrument has a somewhat mysterious pedigree, but it's beauty is evident, from the richly grained, deep amber-hued front to the magnificent flamed maple rear, with deep chestnut tones bleeding onto the fiery oranges. The violin appears to be in fabulous shape, with just some light surface scuffing in the bridge and tailpiece areas, and some wear at the edges - but even these imperfection add to the refined character of the piece. I am not an expert, so it is certainly possible there are some adjustments required I am unaware of. Most of the hardware seems more modern, though the case clearly has some age. It's basic and worn, though al the hardware is functional. It has, 'APS Area III Hope 31' written on it - another mystery! A very elegant vintage piece for a rising enthusiast with a sense of style, or a smaller adult.
