Description
This enigmatic instrument is stamped Villaume a Paris on the rear. It is possible the violin is a copy of a Gustave Villaume - he produced fine instruments, chiefly in the Nancy region of France - although I have read online, his workshop was relocated late in his life from France to Germany in order to produce violins more efficiently, but I've been unable to verify this. Whatever the true nature of the instrument's pedigree, it's a very beautifully made German violin, with splendid color - the burnished chestnut hues graduating to a rich amber - and there is some lovely lateral flaming across the rear. There are some light scuffs and scratches and some wear to the finish beneath the bridge. Comes with a very solid hard case and a basic Glasser bow. An excellent full size vintage instrument.
