    Description

    This violin was made
    in Germany,
    probably
    c. 1900, as indicated by the general characteristics and the label it bears stating:
    COPY OF
    Antonius Stradivarius
    made in Germany
The violin body measures 12 3/8" long, with a lower width of 6 7/8", middle 3 1/2", and upper width of 5 3/8". The back is made of well-figured curly maple, with "STUDENT" stamped into the back below the neck button.  The top is of a single piece of spruce with wide grain on the right flank gradually yielding to fine, narrow grain on the left flank. Small repaired cracks are visible at the lower edge of the left f-hole, and at the left foot of the bridge, but appear stable.  The sides and neck are of plain maple. There is a well-repaired crack on the lower left rib that appears to have been done many years ago and is very solid.  The
    ebony
pegs are new and work smoothly.  Four fine tuners make facilitate tuning.
The violin is housed in a modern thermoplastic case and is partnered with a very good quality old German-made bow of
    Pernambuco
stamped "Artiste".  The bow alone is valued at about 0.
The violin has a warm, rich tone with good clarity, projection and easy response.  It is strung with Thomastic Dominant strings. A great value for the young violinist looking for a good quality vintage instrument.
