Description
I’ll do my best to describe this treasure. 31” X 10” X 5”. Unbranded. Slide-In End style. There is a sleeve for the bow that runs the full length of the case. The construction appears to be canvas over layered paper cardboard. 3 clamps are fully functional. The straps and handle appear to be leather topped with a thin layer of fabric. The center strap at the violin entrance is torn and held together with a small piece of duct tape (see picture 11). The edge piping is a brown canvas that has been machine sewn. There is hand stitching (repair) along the access edges on the top and bottom. This case has done well to stand the test of time, considering it’s canvas/cardboard construction, but it is warped, stained, frayed, and literally falling apart at the seams. 1800’s or 1900’s. I can find no information on this style. Maybe came over on the Mayflower or was on the Titanic?
I would be so grateful for any information on this style of case.
