RETROFLASHBACKS NICOLI AMATI VIOLIN SUB TITULO SANTA TERISIA ONE PC BACK ITALIA

Description

Antique Nicoli Amati Fecit Cremona sub Titulo Santa Terisia Italian violin, with penciled in date of 1728...probably a repro made mid 19th c. - you be the judge.  Full size 4/4 violin. Excellent condition for a violin of this age. I see a nick out of bottom edge next to tailpiece exposing the purfling very small (see photo) and a nick on front left upper bout.  One piece hand carved back of tiger maple. Excellent slim lines, 7 3/4", lower bout, 6 1/4" upper bout. Came from an old blue grass player. Last player attached the tail piece with wire and hand carved the lower peg that holds it. Has wonderful patena front and back.  I have made no effort to clean or restore it or hide any scratches etc. This is a hidden gem. Still has gut strings on it. The old time players used to attach the sound post with a string to move it where they wanted at random. I am leaving it on its part of the history of this instrument.  I did tune and play it. This is a keeper for the collector. I will let the new owner set it up anyway he pleases, or keep it as is! Comes with an old coffin case, that was with it when acquired. GREAT COLLECTIBLE.
