OLD VINTAGE 4/4 EUROPEAN VIOLA VIOLIN BY WENSL FUCHS LABEL 2 BOWS NEAR PERFECT!.Are you the one that will recognize the value of what you're about to see or will it be someone else.
Here is an outstanding, superb rendition of the luthier Wenzl Fuchs.
Wenzl Fuchs is a well-known and highly respected violin maker cello maker and Viola maker came from a long line of violin makers from the Czech Republic. He was from the village of Schonbach. He was forced out of Czechoslovakia and settled in the franconian region after world war II. His violins cellos and violas remain in high international demand to this day, especially in the United States. The Masters experience is evident in several different details of each of his instruments. He chose the finest tone woods. Moderately grained spruce for the top and deeply flamed sycamore maple for the backs. This Masters instruments are recommended if one is to acquire an excellent professional grade quality sound bright, warm, rich in timbre, with a note and radiant resonance to it. I did a little more research and found out that he has passed and that was in 1972. I believe the viola was probably made either in the late to mid 1960s.
Now a word about the item itself. This is a 4/4 Viola. Because I did not know there was a difference between violas and violins I had to do some research so bear with me. There's a lot of information to cover. So I do have partial covenants. This was owned by a young man who played for the Lakewood symphony orchestra here in Denver formerly known as the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra. Based on the contents of what is inside the case he had owned the instrument at least since September of 1978. The reason I know this is because inside the case was a condition and value estimation done by The firm of Hans Meisshaar of 627 North Larchmont boulevard Hollywood California. I will read it as follows. The dollar amounts shown in the photo of the appraisal done in 1978 shown below, at this point is irrelevant now, as prices of these and the Bows or frogs included in this package have substantially increased in value since that time. If you end up purchasing this item, I will include this evaluation within the case as I send the Viola to you. So in the words of The examiner: Today I examined the viola, property of Douglas D. Amaya. The instrument was made by the contemporary violin maker master Wenzl Fuchs in Erlangen, Germany and bears this makers label with manuscript signature.
Description: the back is formed by two pieces of handsome Maple cut on the quarter sawed and is marked by a lively, narrow, horizontal figure. The wood of the sides matches that of the back. The table is cut from two pieces of spruce wood with medium wide grain at the center and widening toward the flanks. The scroll is carved of maple with medium narrow figure. The varnish has an orange red color and was applied shaded. This instrument is in new like state of preservation.
Length of body: 16-17/32"
Upper bouts:7-3/4"
Middle: 5-9/32"
Lower bouts:9-5/8"
With the instrument is a bow made by the contemporary bow maker master Max Wunderlich in Markneukirchen, Germany. The octagonal stick of Pernambuco of red, brown color bears the Maker's brand stamp. Ivory head plate. The frog of Ebony is mounted with nickel silver trimmings and has Pearl eyes in the flanks. The screw button of Ebony is in cased in a metal cap. This bow is in a new like state of preservation.
Furthermore there is one oblong Victoria case with inner lining of green rayon plush and outer covering of black keratol, in new like condition. So this is what's included in the evaluation which was done 43 years ago. I see no evidence of changes in the condition of the bow or the viola since this estimation was done. So what you have here is not 100% perfect but it is as perfect as one can achieve and can find in this day and age. I see no areas of concern. The item will of course because of its age show that it has been handled. To be exact, after all these years I see two very faint impressions in the finish on the front side which does not amount to more than 3/16 of an inch. And as I said they are very faint. Also in photo number six it looks like there may be damage on the rim Edge. This is just a reflection of the sunlight glinting off the varnish. This can be verified by looking at photo number eight and using the enlargement process as you will not see that same glint in that photo or damage of any kind on that leading Edge. In summary, you are looking at a damn near pristine setup considering it's verifiable age to this point and frankly could be much older than what I have been able to verify as part of my partial provenance. There is a photo of the label within the pictures. There is no item number and there is no date on the label but there is a Mark that looks like it may be a number one or it may be just part of the signature. Please make your own determination as you look at the photos.
Now what is not mentioned in the evaluation is the addition of another frog or bow which is currently within the case. That bow is signed or stamped : Eugen Meinel. The bow appears to be made with nickel silver ebony and Pernambuco as well as the other bow it has some mother of pearl as does the other one. The length of this bow is 29.5 in Long the weight of this bow is 58 grams.
The horse hair on this bow and the Max Wunderlich bow is in excellent condition. I do see a couple strands missing off of one of them but I believe every so often when you're playing with a bow a hair will break and as a musician you just reach up and cut the rest of it off. Most of the horse hair I would imagine 99% is still intact on each bow if not more percentage wise.
Some more details on the max wonderlich frog or bow. That bow measures 29-5/8" long and weighs 73 grams.
eBay will not let me post any more than 12 pictures. If you're a serious buyer message me and I should be able to send you five more pictures at a time per message.
Even though the condition on this is absolutely outstanding, this listing will be sold as is where is. The photos are part of the description so look at them closely and message me for more if you need them. I can tell you that there are no issues or areas of concerns mechanically or visually.
Shipping is going to reflect the weight and size of the case. Your item will be insured for what was the purchase price at the end of the auction.
My buy it now price is now what this was appraised at 43 years ago. I'm sure the value has increased since then. I had this previously listed for a much higher amount but I have since relented and will sell it for the appraisal price shown in the last photo. I certainly won't sell it for any less.
Keep in mind, that my buy it now price reflects not only the appraisal 43 years ago but also includes a bow that was not in the case at the time of the appraisal. If you look up the bow that is not mentioned in the appraisal online, you will find prices ranging from 0 all the way up to ,500 respectively. That's a win-win for you if you end up buying this.
Shipping is basically an estimate based on the information I provide to the computer when I list the item. If there is an overage in shipping costs this will be refunded to you.
This case which I almost forgot, comes with a lot of tools and mechanisms I do not know about which a professional musician might use for the use of this viola. There is rosin needle nose pliers two screwdrivers and some other mechanical type gizmos I know nothing about it looks like there is an audio pickup also included. If you message me I can send you photos of the contents.
Please by all means take a moment to read my feedback profile. I pride myself in my integrity my packaging abilities and my relationship to my buyers. My name is Michael.
