“In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries instrument factories in Germany and France made violins with labels simulating Stradivarius', Amati and Guarnerius violins. Stradivarius labels had no borders, were very plain and the last two digits of the date was written in pencil not in ink. The biggest indicator of factory manufacture is the flutes of the scroll at the top of the peg box. In handmade fiddles the flutes continue all the way underneath. The flutes on factory instruments stop toward the peg box.
This violin was probably made in Germany because they're more prevalent in this country than French instruments. This fiddle is very well made with good materials and is in very good con-dition, the pegs appear to be original. It was probably made in the late 1800's or early 1900's.”
