History:
As an owner of several of these cabinets, I had a desire to equip them with backlit marquees, just as the vintage originals.
After viewing online modifications with inferior designs, damaged cabinets, and undesirable results, I set out to build my own.
One requirement I established before starting was to make it a simple remove-and-replace design, with the capability to easily restore the original marquee at any time, returning the cabinet back to “stock” condition.
I personally designed, engineered, and milled the marquee frame.

Special note
: If you are uncomfortable, unwilling, or unable to use simple power and hand tools (electric drill & screwdriver), I would discourage you from purchasing this item, since it does require finish work and installation.
I will include an illustrated installation instruction booklet which includes some simple tips and insights I gained in building my earlier prototypes.

Design Information
:
This marquee frame will fit correctly into the following Arcade1up cabinet releases:

Arcade1up Generation 3 cabinets – “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Marvel Superheroes”.

Arcade1up’s LEGACY “Pac-Man” & “Mortal Kombat II” cabinets.
·
Arcade1up’s Fall 2020 series of Pac-Man releases (“Pac-Man 40
th
Anniversary”, “Ms. Pac-Man”, & “Super Pac-Man”).
I have included several “VISUAL REFERENCE” photo(s) to illustrate how this marquee frame fits onto the speaker panel “shelf” above the screen, and the item(s) in these photo(s) are NOT part of this listing.
Also, the orange prop strip seen in photos is used for photographic purposes and is not part of this listing as well.

BONUS:
During the production run of these marquees, there have been some marquee art panels that have faults, defects, and other issues.
Most of these problems concerned print quality, backlit film application, and trimming issues.
However, some buyers may find value in these unusable marquees.
Therefore, I am offering these art panels as a FREE BONUS with selected BASIC STARTER KITS.
My hope is that someone will be able to utilize these imperfect panels with slight defects since I am unable to.
The BONUS marquee art panel included with this listing is the classic “Pac-Man” marquee.
Upon close inspection, the Pac-Man art panel has some slight “wrinkles” on the surface produced when the laminate was applied to the backlit film, which is almost indistinguishable if observer did not know where to look.

With all the modifications and custom work being done with these cabinets, this marquee kit might be an appealing item to some Arcade1up enthusiast.
Purpose of Starter Kit:
After manufacturing and listing several titles for purchase, I had many inquiries regarding custom designs, colors, and modifications.
I have also become aware of the resourceful, innovative, and creative fans of the Arcade1up games, and their desire to personalize and accessorize their systems.
This starter kit is for those who desire to have the millwork already completed but can and want to do the finish work themselves.
It includes the unfinished frame, reflector, pair of T-nuts and screws, plexiglass insert and installation booklet.
The buyer can then personalize the unit to their own specifications – frame color, marquee art, type of light source to use and power management for that light source.
This provides an affordable way to get started with lighting up your Arcade1up marquee.
I currently have a couple of complete marquee kits listed that can be viewed to give buyers a visual idea of how the marquee can be completed and accessorized.
The item in this listing has been wrapped, packed, boxed, and is ready for immediate shipping, and therefore, I will not be able to offer combined shipping.
What is included
:
One unfinished frame, reflector, pair of T-nuts and screws, plexiglass insert (on which marquee art can be applied), and installation booklet.
Note:
The blue “haze” of the plexiglass is from the protective film found on both sides.
Plus, the described BONUS.

What’s Left to Complete
: Buyer might want to consider the following procedures to complete this marquee kit.
These procedures are intended to be suggestions to help aid and assist the buyer, however, buyer may choose to modify or disregard any/all recommendations at their own discretion.

Prime marquee frame painting premier and do final sanding (220 grit sandpaper).
It is recommended that the metal reflector be removed before any painting.
This can be done by pinching the back of the reflector panel to close the “mouth” and tip the top portion backward to disengage and remove reflector from frame.
The reverse can be utilized to reinstall.

Finalize painting using several coats with 320 grit sanding between coats.
Buyer has option of color!
·
Obtain desired backlit vinyl artwork from 3
rd
party vendor with matching dimensions of the supplied plexiglass panel.
The artwork should include a peel-off sticky back.
The “wet” application of the backlit film material is sometimes challenging.
Make sure to have a small squeegee tool available before you start.
·
LED Lights – With so many choices available (white only, color, brightness, etc.), buyer will need to select which option to install.
All LED lights installed will need to be rated 12-volt DC current.
·
Electrical Connection – For Generation 3 and later cabinets, the 12-volt DC “light bulb” jack found on top of the rear screen panel can be utilized to tap.
Reducing the standard LED size connector (5.5mm x 2.1mm) down to a 3.5mm x 1.35mm male convertor plug is required to make this connection.
Overview of Installation
(installation details are included in the installation booklet that will be included with this item):
To install, the cabinet will need to lay on its side and disassembled to the point when the original marquee was inserted.
It would be helpful to view the original assembly manual, if available.
If needed, a digital version of the original arcade manual can be found on the web.
Using the two holes found at the top of the bezel (screen) frame as a guide, several pilot holes will need to be located and marked on the new marquee.
The original screws that will be removed from this location will be reused during re-installation.
Several other holes will need to be drilled on the sides of this marquee, using the side panel holes as a template.
T nuts and screws are included with this listing to secure marquee to side panels.
No aligning dowel pegs are used in the side panels with the marquee frame.
Aligning and holding everything steady while marking drilling locations was the most challenging part of the installation process, and I learned the hard way to “take my time,” which I completed in a couple of hours.
Therefore, I did not pre-drill the marquee.
I found that I had to "custom fit" the marquee with each installation.
No Arcade1up cabinet(s) are included as part of this listing.
Since this item will need to be finished, self-installed, and involves buyer drilling into marquee, the buyer assumes ALL risk with the installation and there is NO REFUND and NO RETURN on this listing once buyer receives this item via USPS.
Buyer also assumes all responsibility for damage done to the marquee or to the buyer’s arcade during the installation process.
