Description
Welcome for auction I have a very old full size Italian violin (c.1880) in good condition, labeled spuriously"Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oeinipontum 1667". IMHO it's more of an Amati design.
Length of back measures 14 1/16". Inlaid purfling on back, "drawn on or etched"on top.
Violin is fully blocked and lined. I
'm sure the likeness to a certain character in a 19thc Mary Shelly novel might be somewhat apparent to you
Definitely 19thc work - most likely Italian or possibly (German, Czech or Polish).
There is obviously signs of wear but I see no repairs or cracks. That's amazing in itself! When is the last time you've seen maple such as this? Violin makers in Italy made use of plain maple, field maple and European sycamore. AND figured maple was never thrown aside even if they had to make a 4 piece back. Offered with two bows (no names) bows might need work, includes old case.
The violin will be shipped with a good and secured packaging. Thank you for you
r
interest.

*found among a small collection of carved head violins, one sold sometime back - it had the remains of an indentation on the neck from a wire holding it in place on a homemade wooden wall device. I have a couple others that will subsequently be auctioned; so if you have an interest in these anomalies of the violin world, here's a heads-up (pardon the pun) James
video to follow, hopefully *violin is nicely arched and has a beautiful Gypsy quality to the tone and color.
Now if I could locate a player to audition violins I have for sale - that'd be the cat's meow!
