Description
This Maggini model violin is in beautifulcondition
and was IMHO made in Schonbach, Bohemia around 1900 and
likely made
by Jan Juzek (John Juzek). The condition of this violin is amazing with antiquing done to simulate a 300+ year old
instrument
.
Pictures simply do not do justice to how incredible this violin looks. It is breathtaking.
The early Juzek violins had a
reputation
for being high quality
like this one. The
construction
method used on this violin is a French outer mould, but it was not made in France. The well known and sought after Juzek Master Models are built in the same way as this violin. From the fluting of the scroll reaching the pegbox to the scroll turns being perfectly circular, this violin is incredible. The precise sound holes and edgework IMHO show that maker's craftmanship.
The tonewoods used on the back and ribs are beautiful, and exactly what the top makers were searching for. The high altitude
Carpathian
maple (now extinct) that provided Prague, Markneukirchen, Klingenthal and much of Saxony had those wonderful qualities that allowed such instruments as this one to stand above those using lesser tonewoods and combined with the Alpine fine-grain spruce on this violin produces a sweet. powerful, and projecting tone. It needs to be used by a talented musician to be fully appreciated. It sounds very good.
This is an extraordinarily good violin.
The strings are German Silver and add a brightness to this fabulous instrument. The setup includes
a new sound post, Aubert-France
bridge,
an ebony tailpiece with fine tuner, an adjustable Sacconi Tailgut, and ebony chinrest. The matching pegs are ebony. Previous repairs were done right and are solid.
Length of back is 14-1/8", upper bout 6-5/8", lower bout is 8-1/8", and overall is 23-3/8". The original gold-brown varnish is in good condition.
A nice case and good bow will be included.
Will be packed and shipped professionally for a safe arrival. I go out of my way to make buyers happy. Please feel free to ask any questions about this instrument.
