Description
This is a beautiful violin made inMarkneukirchen,
Saxony, Germany, the last quarter of the 19th century. It is labeled as an Andreas Guarnerius. There is no 'Made in Germany' ink stamp on the printed label indicating it was a label printed before the McKinley Tarriff act of 1885. The wood is wonderfully matching figured maple and medium-fine grained spruce. It sounds incredibly good.
This is an outstanding violin. It is set up as a Baroque instrument with a wedge under the fingerboard, yet plays like a contemporary instrument.
The new strings are German Silver, new German bridge, new soundpost, new
Tailgut and fine tuner on a new tailpiece with a new center-mounted ebony chinrest. There are previous repairs and no open cracks.
Length of back is 14-1/16", upper bout 6-1/2", lower bout is 7-7/8", and overall is 23". The original orange-amber varnish is in good condition.
These German Guarnerius violins usually sound really good and this one is even better than average. It's tone and projection are outstanding.
The original case and a usable bow will be included.
Will be packed and shipped professionally for a safe arrival. I go out of my way to make buyers happy. Please feel free to ask any questions about this instrument.
