Antique Vintage 1871 A.P. Radley American Folk Violin with Original Coffin Case == Beautifully crafted but probably not by a trained luthier, great example of pioneer American craftsmanship == As inscribed on the hand-made case, completed on January 31st, 1871 in Paw Paw Grove, Illinois == Great display piece, or candidate for restoration == Beautiful Birdseye Maple back and neck, plain maple rims, spruce or possibly pine belly == Case is very nicely crafted -- note that it is a "house" case, not a travel case, quite solidly built -- but ultimately may have had a fatal flaw -- the notch for the neck is too deep, allowing the top back of the scroll to contact the back of the case -- apparently this did allow the rather delicately carved scroll to loose its head (see pictures, with the break through the A peg (which is missing) -- this has been lightly glued for display, as has the fingerboard, which was also detached -- obviously a  restoration to full playing condition would require more work (although it could be strung with 3 strings to assess the sound and inform a decision for further restoration) == Although lacking  == Worldwide Shipping ==
