Forceful Freddie Spencer and Ron Pierce have made Honda aware of the "USA effect," a spray of oil and pieces flying out of previously reliable engines, which is due to pressure applied at throttles by American riders. Mark Jones led the 750 final when Pierce's Honda oiled the track and teammate Spencer's tires. But the effort left Jones wheezed out after a dozen laps of glory and Richard Schlachter coaxed his ailing Yamaha to a deserved win.
